The Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry is the dental school of the University of Southern California. It was established in 1897 as simply the "University of Southern California School of Dentistry" as the first established dental school in Southern California. The school graduated its first class of 11 students in 1900.
The UCLA School of Dentistry was established in 1964 [5] in response to the need for an additional public school of dentistry in the greater Los Angeles area. The Class of 1968 was the first graduating class, with 28 Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degrees awarded.
In 2004 the school was named in honor of Arthur A. Dugoni, a former president of the American Dental Association, who served 28 years as dean. [6] The dental school has nine clinics open in San Francisco and Union City. [7]
