Smooth Sailin' is an album by the American musical group the Isley Brothers, released in 1987 on Warner Bros. Records. [1] It was the first album that the group released as a duo of Rudolph and Ronald after the untimely death of eldest brother O'Kelly, who died in 1986 due to occlusive coronary artery disease. [2]
"Shout" is a popular song, written and originally recorded by American vocal group the Isley Brothers in 1959. Later versions include a UK Top 10 hit in 1964 by Scottish singer Lulu. "Shout" was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. [3] Rolling Stone magazine ranked it at number 119 on its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". [4]

The Isley Brothers' final album under their six-member lineup, Between the Sheets (1983), sold more than two million copies. By then, financial struggles, creative difficulties, and other issues affected the group. Shortly after the success of Between the Sheets, Ernie, Marvin, and Chris left the Isley Brothers and formed Isley-Jasper-Isley.
After the success of the title track, the group were rushed into a recording studio to record much of the album, which included another Isley standard, the uncharted "Respectable", which, like "Shout", was also covered by rock acts. "Twist and Shout" is a 1961 song written by Phil Medley and Bert Berns (later credited as "Bert Russell"). It was originally recorded by The Top Notes, but it did not become a hit in the record charts until it was reworked by the Isley Brothers for their album Twist & Shout in 1962.
