Tabacón is a hot spring resort and ecohotel located in Nuevo Arenal, Alajuela Province, Costa Rica, twelve kilometres (7.5 mi) northwest of La Fortuna. [1] It lies on the flanks of Arenal Volcano, which it uses to heat its springs. The geothermal springs have a range between 72 and 105°F (22-41°C). [2]
The Cerro Chato, also known as the Chato Volcano is a dormant volcano that first erupted 38,000 years ago and last erupted 3,500 years ago. One of its eruptions paved the way for the nearby La Fortuna Waterfall. Cerro Chato has two peaks, Chatito (little Chato) and Espina (Thorn), as well as a 1,640-ft (500-m) crater filled with green water.
Arenal Volcano National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal) is a Costa Rican national park in the central part of the country, part of the Arenal Huetar Norte Conservation Area. The park encompasses the Arenal Volcano , the most active in the country, which was believed to be dormant until a major eruption in 1968.

Rincón de la Vieja is one of six active Costa Rican volcanoes: the others are Poás, Irazú, Miravalles, Arenal, and Turrialba. As of 2021, only Rincón de la Vieja, Turrialba and Poás are considered active.
