Sigiriya consists of an ancient citadel built by King Kashyapa during the 5th century. A news paper article said that that Sigiriya could have been called Chitraraja Palace, the Palace fortress of Ravana which became a Yakkha temple called Chitrakuta in the days of King Pandukabhaya, the residence of the Yakkha noble called Chithraraja who helped King Pandukabhaya to come to power.
