In 1956, a new course curriculum and the semester system were introduced at the college. [ 13 ] On 1 June 1962, in order to create facilities for postgraduate studies and research, the college was upgraded to East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology (EPUET), becoming the fourth university of the then East Pakistan . [ 13 ]
The main campus is a large four-storied building. A branch of the Sonali Bank has been established for the DPI students' banking facilities, which is located at the northern corner of the main building. A large auditorium is also located inside the main campus for various events and cultural activities.
After a short time, the College of Engineering was renamed as Dhaka Engineering College (DEC). Then DEC shifted to its present permanent campus Gazipur City in 1983. In the post-liberation era of Bangladesh, in 1971, the institute was renamed as "Bangladesh Textile Institute". Afterward, in 1978, the institute launched a four-year period bachelor's degree program in textile technology in affiliation with University of Dhaka and re-branded itself as "College of Textile Engineering and Technology" .

This college was acknowledged by the Dhaka Education Board on 19 May 1971. On 31 May 1972, honours courses were introduced in Bangla and chemistry department under the University of Dhaka. M.A. (part-1) was started in this college in English, political science, botany, zoology and maths subjects on 28 January 1995.
Principal M. A. Sattar is the founder. Shyamoli Ideal Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) operates Diploma in Engineering program under Bangladesh Technical Education Board. It was M. A.
