DeLano Farms is a working educational farm, located at 555 West E Avenue, north of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The farm is the western portion of the Kalamazoo Nature Center, and contains the historic William S. Delano House and associated farmstead. The Benjamin and Maria (Ogden) Drake Farm, also known as the Drake Farmstead, is a farmstead located at 927 North Drake Road in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012, [ 1 ] and as of 2021 is open to the public as the Drake Farmstead Park .
Later in the nineteenth century, the Michigan Asylum for the Insane (now the Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital) operated a cooperative farm across the street, employing the hospital's patients. The Gibbs farm was incorporated into the hospital's farming operations. [3] The farm and house were transferred to the university in 1959.
