The Shelbyville Daily Union, "Shelby County's No. 1 News Source," was a daily newspaper serving Shelbyville, Illinois. It was owned by Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. Missing only two editions since starting as the Shelbyville Weekly Union in 1863, the Union was the county's first daily on January 22, 1887.
In recent years, average temperatures in the county seat of Shelbyville have ranged from a low of 19 °F (−7 °C) in January to a high of 87 °F (31 °C) in July, although a record low of −26 °F (−32 °C) was recorded in January 1915 and a record high of 111 °F (44 °C) was recorded in July 1936.

Shelby County was created by an 1827 law that provided for a temporary county seat at the home of one Barnet Bone. The same law provided for the creation of a commission to choose a location for a new county seat and directed that it be named "Shelbyville".
