Branched Oak State Recreation Area (SRA) is a Nebraska state recreation area located 2.5 miles north of Malcolm, Nebraska (northwest of Lincoln) in Lancaster County. The lake is the largest of the Salt Valley Lakes with 1,800 acres (7 km 2 ) of water in a 5,595-acre (23 km 2 ) park.

The Salt Valley Lakes is a system of more than twenty lakes in Lancaster County, Nebraska. Many of the lakes are state recreation areas or wildlife areas. All of the lakes are within twenty-five miles of Lincoln, Nebraska. [1] "These areas around Lincoln cover 15,039 total acres, with 4,438 acres of water." [2]
The club has the use of Branched Oak Lake, which is 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Lincoln. The 1,800-acre (7 km 2) lake allows for 2,500 meters of rowing from the dam to the dock, and 1,500 meters from the dam to the end of the cove. The Lincoln West Optimist Club allows the club to store their boats, dock, and trailer on site year-round.
Forested ravines and hillsides contain bur oak, basswood, elm, black walnut and hackberry. White-tailed deer and wild turkey are commonly seen. Coyotes, red and gray foxes, raccoons and bobcats might also be spotted. This area is also known for the concentrations of waterfowl that congregate during the spring and fall migrations.
