"Cracker Island" is a song by British virtual band Gorillaz, featuring American bassist, singer and songwriter Thundercat. The track was released on 22 June 2022 as the first single from their eighth studio album, Cracker Island .
The majority of the work on the album began in 2021. "Tormenta", made in collaboration with Bad Bunny, was the first song completed.It was planned as the lead single for the second season of the Gorillaz web series Song Machine, before the project was shelved in favour of a traditional studio album (as was "New Gold", which became the second single).
With Gorillaz, Albarn explored genres he had not explored with Blur, such as hip-hop, dub and Latin music, a process he described as liberating: "One of the reasons I began Gorillaz is I had a lot of rhythms I never thought I could use with Blur. A lot of that stuff never really seemed to manifest itself in the music we made together as Blur."
