Sialkot (Punjabi, Urdu: سيالكوٹ) is a city located in Punjab, Pakistan.It is the capital of the Sialkot District and the 12th most populous city in Pakistan. [10] [5] The boundaries of Sialkot are joined by Jammu in the north east, the districts of Narowal in the southeast, Gujranwala in the southwest and Gujrat in the northwest.
The city was visited by the Chinese traveller Xuanzang in 633, [26] who recorded the city's name as She-kie-lo. [27] Xuanzang reported that the city had been rebuilt approximately 15 li, or 2.5 miles, away from the city ruined by Alexander the Great. [28] During this time, Sialkot served as the political nucleus of the Punjab region. [29]

Sialkot Fort is an ancient fort in ruins in the Sialkot district of Pakistan. [1] [2] According to Punjabi folklore, it was built by Raja Sálbán around the 2nd century CE. [3] [4] The fort was rebuilt by Shahab ud-Din Ghori after its capture from Khusrau Malik, the last Ghaznavid ruler. [5] [6]
