Shelby County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2020 United States Census , the population was 45,055. [ 1 ] The county seat (and only incorporated city) is Shelbyville .

The largest county is Allen (657 sq. mi., 1,702 km 2) and the smallest is Ohio (86 sq. mi., 223 km 2). [3] According to the Constitution of Indiana, no county may be created of less than 400 square miles (1,000 km 2), nor may any county smaller than this be further reduced in size, which precludes any new counties. [4]
In 1998, a 1,033-acre (4.18 km 2) parcel of land north of the firing line within the former range is operated as an air-to-surface gunnery/bombing range by the Indiana Air National Guard. [5] [6] As of 2014, Jefferson Range is used for UAV training, including tests of air-to-ground strikes. [6]
