King Edward's School (KES) is an independent day school for boys in the British public school tradition, located in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Founded by King Edward VI in 1552, it is part of the Foundation of the Schools of King Edward VI .
Previously a foundation school administered by Birmingham City Council and The Endeavour Co-operative Learning Trust. [2] In September 2021 the school converted to academy status and was renamed King Edward VI Northfield School for Girls. The school is now sponsored by the Foundation of the Schools of King Edward VI. [3]
It was established by a royal charter as Morpeth Grammar School and later as King Edward VI Grammar School. [1] The school became a comprehensive school in the 1970s and an academy in December 2011. [2] It is locally known as "KEVI" or simply "King Edward's". In 2011, the school became part of The Three Rivers Learning Trust. [3]
