The directive on 'ozone in ambient air' came into force in 2002. The long-term objective is to limit the number of days with average ozone concentrations above 120 μg/m 3 to less than 25 days a year (see table below). The objectives of the directive are in line with the World Health Organization's guidelines for ozone.
Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS), is a suite of instruments built by Ball Aerospace that measure the global distribution of ozone and, less frequently, how it is distributed vertically within the stratosphere. [1] The suite flies on the Suomi NPP and NOAA-20 (formerly JPSS-1) satellites along with several other instruments.
The ozone layer visible from space at Earth's horizon as a blue band of afterglow within the bottom of the large bright blue band that is the stratosphere, with a silhouette of a cumulonimbus in the orange afterglow of the troposphere. The ozone layer or ozone shield is a region of Earth's stratosphere that absorbs most of the Sun's ultraviolet ...
Ground-level ozone (O 3), also known as surface-level ozone and tropospheric ozone, is a trace gas in the troposphere (the lowest level of the Earth's atmosphere), with an average concentration of 20–30 parts per billion by volume (ppbv), with close to 100 ppbv in polluted areas.
More than four in 10 people that live in the United States live in counties that have unhealthful levels of either ozone or particle pollution.

The ozone concentrations shown are very small, typically only a few molecules wide O 3 per million molecules of air. But these ozone molecules are vitally important to life because they absorb the biologically harmful ultraviolet radiation from the Sun.
The Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion is a sequence of reports sponsored by WMO/UNEP. The most recent report is from 2018. The most recent report is from 2018. The reports were set up to inform the Montreal Protocol and amendments about ozone depletion .
