Long Point Provincial Park was created in 1921 at the base of the peninsula. [10] The Long Point Company transferred part of its land to the Canadian Wildlife Service, which made it a National Wildlife Area in 1980. [8] In 1982, Long Point was recognised as a Ramsar site.
