The Whanganui National Park is a national park located in the North Island of New Zealand. Established in 1986, [ 1 ] it covers an area of 742 km 2 bordering the Whanganui River . [ 2 ] It incorporates areas of Crown land, former state forest and a number of former reserves.
Whanganui National Park is slightly smaller (742.31 km 2 [286.61 sq mi]) and was established 99 years later when a series of reserves were incorporated into one area and given national park status. There are two state forest parks in the rugged, bush-clad Ruahine Range and Tararua Range.
