Night photography (also called nighttime photography) is the capturing of images outdoors between dusk and dawn. Night photographers generally have a choice between using artificial lighting and using a long exposure , exposing the shot for seconds, minutes, or hours in order to capture enough light to record an image.
Though the results resemble day for night film and video shots, the techniques are quite different. Instead of reducing the exposure of the print made for the night version, the colorist painted an identical print with darker individual tints. No attempt at an overall bluish effect was made, and many colors are actually warmer in the "night" scene.
Exposure is a combination of the length of time and the illuminance at the photosensitive material. Exposure time is controlled in a camera by shutter speed, and the illuminance depends on the lens aperture and the scene luminance. Slower shutter speeds (exposing the medium for a longer period of time), greater lens apertures (admitting more ...
A 30-minute photo of a static object and surrounding cannot be distinguished from a short exposure; hence, the inclusion of motion is the main factor to add intrigue to long exposure photos. Images with exposure times of several minutes also tend to make moving people or dark objects disappear (because they are in any one spot for only a ...
Exposure is further controlled in each of the above modes with an independent setting for: Ev: Exposure value enables an increase/decrease in image exposure compensation to make the resulting image brighter/darker, typically selectable in steps of whole or partial exposure "stops" (discrete widening/tightening of the aperture). Many cameras ...

The specified times apply to black/white film. Note that the times are approximate, and vary between different films and ASA numbers, but the table shows in general how the exposure time is adjusted. In photography , reciprocity is the inverse relationship between the intensity and duration of light that determines the reaction of light ...
