    I tested a different router and it changed nothing, as well. I purchased a new NIC and installed it into the machine. Adding a third NIC changed nothing. It still showed that the network cable was unplugged. I went into properties and tried different negotiation, i.e. I tried auto, TX 100, half duplex, full duplex, etc and it made no difference.

    If the later, then try to install the Dell Network drivers that system. If the OS was already installed, the R720 has a Network Daughter Card (NDC) that commonly rattles loose during shipment which causes the problem you are describing.     "Network Connections" shows the adapter as enabled but unplugged. I can correct the problem by disabling the adapter and then re-enabling it, but that only works maybe a couple of times in a row. In the latest instance (moments ago), I right-clicked the adapter to disable it, and then right-clicked to enable it again.
