The university is the first multi-campus university in Pakistan, having five modern campuses based in different cities. [3] These campuses are located in Chiniot-Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar, providing a standard educational environment and recreational facilities to 11,000 students, out of which 500 are faculty members and a quarter is covered by female students.

PIEAS retained this title in HEC's second ranking, carried out in 2012. The university was ranked as the top engineering institute of Pakistan by the HEC in the "engineering and technology" category, as of 2013. [3] QS World University Rankings ranked the institute top in Pakistan and 106th in Asia in 2014. [12]
Up to date, the HEC has published rankings for the years 2006, 2012, 2013, 2014 and most recently 2015. [2] In addition to the top ten and general rankings, independent rankings are also provided for universities and institutes in the categories of agriculture and veterinary science; arts and design; business; engineering and technology; and medicine. The main campus in Islamabad was established in 1998.
