Igoumenitsa (Greek: Ηγουμενίτσα, romanized: Igoumenítsa) is a coastal city in northwestern Greece. It is the capital of the regional unit of Thesprotia . Igoumenitsa is the chief port of Thesprotia and Epirus , and one of the largest passenger ports of Greece, connecting northwestern Mainland Greece with the Ionian Islands and Italy .
Egnatia Railway is a planned railway line between Alexandroupolis and Igoumenitsa in northern Greece. The project is planned to include existing track upgrades as well as new track. The projected cost of this project is €10 billion. [1] [2]
The road, which links the Ionian coast at Igoumenitsa to Thessaloniki and further to Alexandroupoli the Greek Turkish borders, was opened to traffic in 2009. Other important roads in Thesprotia include the Greek National Road 6 (Igoumenitsa - Ioannina - Larissa ) and Greek National Road 18 ( Filiates - Paramythia - Preveza ).

Greek National Road 6 (Greek: Εθνική Οδός 6, abbreviated as EO6) is a national road in north-central Greece.It begins at the port of Igoumenitsa and ends at Volos, passing through the towns Ioannina, Metsovo, Trikala and Larissa.
Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Igoumenitsa, of which it is a municipal unit. [4] The municipal unit has an area of 72.439 km 2. [5] The population in 2021 was 1,089 for the village, and 2,693 for the municipal unit. The municipal unit has four main settlements: Syvota, Argyrotopos, Faskomilia, and Plataria.

Thesprotos Football Club (Greek: Α.Σ. Θεσπρωτός Ηγουμενίτσας) is a Greek professional football club based in Igoumenitsa, Thesprotia, Greece. The club was founded in 1948. They compete in Gamma Ethniki, the third tier of Greek football.
