Bangladesh has seen a total of 12 Bangladeshi private airlines in the past 25 years. [1] US-Bangla is the largest airline in Bangladesh by fleet size while Biman Bangladesh is the national flag carrier.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines was established in January 1972 as the Bangladesh national flag carrier. [1] Operations started on 4 February 1972, initially on a domestic basis and using DC-3 aircraft, with services radiating from Dhaka to Chittagong, Jessore and Sylhet. [2]
The airline started flights from Dhaka to Chennai (via Chittagong) on 31 March 2019 also becoming first Bangladeshi airline carrier to operate flights to Southern India. [ 11 ] In February 2019, US-Bangla Airlines announced an order for four ATR 72-600 aircraft, to be used on domestic flights.

Best Air obtained a license in 2006 from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh to operate passenger service in domestic and international sectors. The company was formed in 2007 as a joint venture between Best Aviation and a Kuwait-based company, Aqeeq Aviation Holding which controls a 70% share of the airline. [citation needed]
Some of the airfields are used for military and training purposes by the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Bangladesh has five domestic airports, three international airports (which are also used for domestic flights) and four STOL (short take-off and landing) ports, with one new domestic airport under construction.
