Gordon County is a county in the Northwest region of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 57,544. [1] The county seat is Calhoun. [2] Gordon County comprises the Calhoun, GA Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Atlanta–Athens-Clarke County–Sandy Springs, GA-AL CSA.
A post office called Red Bud was established in 1852, and remained in operation until being discontinued in 1928. [2] The community was named for a grove of red bud trees near the original town site. [3] [4]
Ranger is located in eastern Gordon County at (34.500175, -84.711392 U.S. Route 411 passes through the center of town, leading north 19 miles (31 km) to Chatsworth and south 5 miles (8 km) to Fairmount.
Fairmount is located in southeastern Gordon County at (34.438510, -84.699371), [9] in the valley of Salacoa Creek, a northwest-flowing tributary of the Coosawattee U.S. Route 411 runs through the center of town as Salacoa Avenue, leading north 24 miles (39 km) to Chatsworth and south 21 miles (34 km) to Cartersville.
