Deer Creek Township also known as Township No. Seventy One (71) is a township in Mills County, Iowa, United States. [1] [2] Deer Creek Township was created by the subdivision of the White Cloud Civil Township at a meeting of the Board of Supervisors held in the courthouse of Glenwood, Iowa, on the 5th of September in 1871.
Iowa state law allows each county board of supervisors to divide the county into townships. [1] An elected or appointed board of trustees governs each township. The trustees are often elected, but may be appointed by the county board of supervisors if authorized by voters after a referendum.

The board of supervisors is elected according to Plan One of the 1984 Code of Iowa, Chapter 331.208. It is composed of three members elected at large. Vacancies in the board of supervisors are filled by appointment made by the county auditor, county recorder, and the clerk of district court.
