T. J. Hooker is an American police drama television program starring William Shatner in the title role as a 15-year veteran police sergeant. The series premiered as a mid-season replacement on March 13, 1982, on ABC and ran on the network until May 4, 1985.

William Shatner is T. J. Hooker, a veteran cop hardened by divorce and the shooting death of his partner. In the opener, Captain Dennis Sheridan (Richard Herd) assigns Hooker to train recruits pending the investigation of a controversial shooting in which he was involved. Hooker is partnered with rookie cop Vincent Romano (Adrian Zmed).
The song's success led to him recording a series of pop hits for Colpix Records, the most notable of which was "Goodbye Cruel World," which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961.
