Makoto Naegi (Japanese: 苗木 誠, Hepburn: Naegi Makoto) is a fictional character introduced as the protagonist of the 2010 visual novel adventure game Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc by Spike Chunsoft.
Following the events of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Makoto Naegi, the Ultimate Hope, and his fellow former classmates, detective Kyoko Kirigiri, swimmer Aoi Asahina, and fortune-teller Yasuhiro Hagakure, are brought together to an abandoned overseas branch of Hope's Peak Academy where the top members of the Future Foundation are assembled.
Animation producer Yuuji Higa said it was ultimately Naegi and Hajime, carrying their respective burdens of hope and despair, that he thought were really amazing. Kodaka was moved to tears watching the scene of Makoto confronting Kyosuke, especially because of Megumi Ogata and Toshiyuki Morikawa's acting.
Coming to terms with his past with the aid of Makoto Naegi, Hajime rallies the remaining students to defeat Alter Ego Junko and becomes one of the survivors who manages to escape to the real world. He returns in Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School , where he has retained Izuru's talent and Hajime's personality.

The name "Nagito Komaeda" was conceived as an anagram for "Naegi Makoto da" ("I am Makoto Naegi") to infer it is a pseudonym. [13] Although the truth is that Nagito is a twisted version of Makoto Naegi, where instead of being a protagonist, he is an antagonist.
