Jet fuel is a clear to straw-colored fuel, based on either an unleaded kerosene (Jet A-1), or a naphtha–kerosene blend (Jet B). Similar to diesel fuel , it can be used in either compression ignition engines or turbine engines .
A visual check may detect high concentrations of suspended water, as this will cause the fuel to become hazy in appearance. An industry standard chemical test for the detection of free water in jet fuel uses a water-sensitive filter pad that turns green if the fuel exceeds the specification limit of 30 ppm (parts per million) free water. [22]
RT300 Jet-A1 Model that runs on Jet A-1 fuel, with a compression ratio of 8.5:1 and produces 31 hp (23 kW) at 7500 rpm. [2]RT300 LCR Model that runs on petroleum or avgas, with a compression ratio of 9.6:1 and produces 32 hp (24 kW) at 7500 rpm.
[2] [3] Avgas has an emission coefficient (or factor) of 18.355 pounds per US gallon (2.1994 kg/L) of CO 2 [4] [5] or about 3.07 units of weight CO 2 produced per unit weight of fuel used. Avgas is less volatile, with a Reid vapor pressure range of 5.5 to 7 psi, than automotive gasoline, with a range of 8 to 14 psi.
ρ ref is the known density (mass per unit volume) of the reference liquid (typically water). ρ new is the unknown density of the new (green) liquid. RD new/ref is the relative density of the new liquid with respect to the reference. V is the volume of reference liquid displaced, i.e. the red volume in the diagram. m is the mass of the entire ...
Saunders-Roe first presented their idea, then designated as the SR.44, to the Air Ministry during mid-1943. Criticisms of the design were produced by Ministry officials, included the observation that the wing thickness/chord ratio was considered to be too high for a high-speed fighter when operating at a high altitude. The V-3420 had a power-to-weight ratio of 1.6 kW/kg or 1 hp/lb, excellent for its time. It was envisioned as a powerful yet compact engine for several advanced USAAF projects of the day, including the Douglas XB-19 , the Boeing XB-39 Superfortress , the Lockheed XP-58 Chain Lightning , and the Fisher P-75 Eagle .
