Thompson/Center Arms is an American firearms company based in Rochester, New Hampshire. The company was best known for its line of interchangeable-barrel, single-shot pistols and rifles. Thompson/Center also manufactures muzzle-loading rifles and was credited with creating the resurgence of their use in the 1970s.
In 1965, Center joined the K.W. Thompson Tool Company and they introduced this design as the Thompson-Center Contender in 1967. Although they cost more than some hunting revolvers, the flexibility of being able to shoot multiple calibers by simply changing the barrel and sights and its higher accuracy made it popular with handgun hunters. The .357/44 Bain & Davis is a centerfire pistol cartridge designed in 1964 by Keith Davis, a partner and pistolsmith of the Bain & Davis Gunshop of San Gabriel, California. The purpose was to give improved velocity over the .357 Magnum by using the larger .44 Magnum case necked down to hold a 0.357 diameter bullet.

The .30-06 JDJ is an improved form of the .30-06 Springfield cartridge designed for use in the Thompson Center Arms Encore platform. The body taper of the parent cartridge has been almost entirely eliminated in the JDJ design. The shoulder has also been blown forward considerably, with the angle sharpened to 60 degrees.
