Risingholme, c. 1870 Frankel was born in Christchurch on 8 October 1902. She was the middle of three children of engineer Frederick Anderson and his wife Phoebe. [1] [2] Her grandfather, John Anderson (1820–1897), founded an engineering business, and two uncles, Andrew (1851–1927) and John (1849–1934), were prominent engineers.
Mark Colin Braunias (20 August 1955 – 17 December 2024) was a New Zealand semi-abstract painter who experimented with quilt making and glass blowing. He won the $25,000 Parkin Drawing Prize (2021) and two Wallace Art awards, and his work is held in important national art collections including Te Papa Museum, Christchurch Art Gallery, Dunedin Public Art Gallery and the Sarjeant Art Gallery.

After the war, Rhodes opened a barbershop in Manchester Street, Christchurch and on 22 August 1922 married Edith Wilton at St Andrew's Church, Christchurch. [5] Together they had four children – Faye, Ngaio, Betty, and Jim – before moving in 1929 to the West Coast. Rhodes set up a barbershop on Mawhera Quay, Greymouth, near the Railway Hotel.
