Montreat Conference Center is located just east of Asheville, North Carolina and in close proximity to Black Mountain, North Carolina. Montreat consists of approximately 4,000 acres (16 km 2) of land, 2,460 acres (10.0 km 2) of which are protected under a conservation easement. [2]
The town is located in the valley of Flat Creek and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. Black Mountain is located in eastern Buncombe County. The town of Montreat borders Black Mountain to the north, and the unincorporated community of Swannanoa is on the western border. U.S. Route 70 (State Street) is the main road through the center of town. Interstate 40 passes just to the south of downtown, with access from exits 64 and 65.
