Daytime on Portland Street c. 2006. Hotel tower of Langham Place viewed from about 1.6 km (one mile) away. The structure is one of Kowloon's tallest. A section of Portland Street, particularly between Argyle Street and Dundas Street, hosts arguably Hong Kong's most famous red light district (serving mostly local Chinese clientele) and a popular scene in Hong Kong films. 26 Nathan Road (Chinese: 彌敦道26號), formerly known as East Enterprise Square or Oterprise Square [2] (東企業廣場), is a commercial 28-storey commercial building that was expanded from the Ambassador Hotel in Kowloon by Sun Hung Kai Properties development.
The boundary of Kowloon East is not strictly defined and hence varies. While traditionally the Kowloon–Canton Railway (now the East Rail line) serves as the separation of eastern and western part, the Kowloon City District, located at the east of the railway, was part of the Kowloon West Legislative Council constituency in order to balance the population between the two halves.
The hotel consisted of two 15 floor towers, a six-storey atrium, a Chinese restaurant and 90,000 square feet (8,400 m 2) of convention space. Due to declining trade, the hotel was sold to Hospitality Investors Group of Scottsdale, Arizona in 2004 for redevelopment. [ 6 ]
In March 2018, when IHG Hotels & Resorts acquired a majority-stake in Regent Hotels, it was announced that following renovations, the hotel would be rebranded back to Regent Hong Kong. InterContinental Hong Kong officially ceased operations on April 20, 2020 to commence the three-year renovation and conversion to Regent Hong Kong.
