Peter Lloyd Price was born in Wrexham on 25 January 1946. [7] [8] [9] He was adopted at approximately three months old, in April 1946, by Hilda Sandra Price and David William Lloyd. He was raised in West Kirby, Cheshire. He was notably closer to his mother than his father, who repeatedly was violent towards Price's mother. [10]
Price was one of that generation who bridged the gap between terminological eras, beginning his career as an inside forward and ending it as a striker [1] despite playing a similar role throughout. He began his career as a youth at Liverpool , signing a full-time professional contract in 1966.
