The earliest horse remains found in the area now covered by Britain and Ireland date to the Middle Pleistocene. Two species of horses have been identified from remains at Pakefield, East Anglia, dating back to 700,000 BC. [1]

Located on the edge of Bratton Downs and lying just below an Iron Age hill fort , it is the oldest of several white horses carved in Wiltshire. [ 1 ]
