Brunswick County Courthouse Square is a historic county courthouse complex and national historic district located at Lawrenceville, Brunswick County, Virginia.It encompasses four contributing buildings and two contributing objects.
Brunswick County is a United States county located on the southern border of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Brunswick County was created in 1720 from parts of Prince George, Surry and Isle of Wight counties. The county was named for the former Duchy of Brunswick-Lunenburg, the ancestral home of the British monarchs of the House of Hanover.
County court records were maintained on the first floor there until the completion of the adjacent Clerk's Building in 1893. These two buildings are included in the Brunswick County Courthouse Square Historic District listed in 1974 on the National Register of Historic Places. The Town of Lawrenceville was incorporated in 1874.
The building served as the Brunswick County Courthouse from 1854 until the county seat was moved to Bolivia in 1978. The building was then deeded to Southport and became its City Hall in 1983.
