Calpurnia is a genus of flowering plants within the family Fabaceae. It includes six species which range through eastern, central, and southern Africa and in southern India. [ 1 ] The genus comprises shrubs or small trees in or along the margin of forests in the eastern parts of South Africa .

The first of the gens to obtain the consulship was Gaius Calpurnius Piso in 180 BC, but from this time their consulships were very frequent, and the family of the Pisones became one of the most illustrious in the Roman state.

This gene encodes an intracellular calcium-binding protein belonging to the troponin C superfamily. Members of this protein family have six EF-hand domains which bind calcium. This protein plays a role in diverse cellular functions, including message targeting and intracellular calcium buffering. [6]
