Individual polygons are named (and sometimes classified) according to the number of sides, combining a Greek -derived numerical prefix with the suffix -gon, e.g. pentagon, dodecagon. The triangle, quadrilateral and nonagon are exceptions, although the regular forms trigon, tetragon, and enneagon are sometimes encountered as well.
The following list of polygons, polyhedra and polytopes gives the names of various classes of polytopes and lists some specific examples. Polytope elements [ edit ]
Hexagon. In geometry, a hexagon (from Greek ἕξ, hex, meaning "six", and γωνία, gonía, meaning "corner, angle") is a six-sided polygon. [1] The total of the internal angles of any simple (non-self-intersecting) hexagon is 720°.
Isogonal figure. In geometry, a polytope (e.g. a polygon or polyhedron) or a tiling is isogonal or vertex-transitive if all its vertices are equivalent under the symmetries of the figure. This implies that each vertex is surrounded by the same kinds of face in the same or reverse order, and with the same angles between corresponding faces.
Definitions. In its original definition, it is a polyhedron with regular polygonal faces, and a symmetry group which is transitive on its vertices; today, this is more commonly referred to as a uniform polyhedron (this follows from Thorold Gosset 's 1900 definition of the more general semiregular polytope ). [1] [2] These polyhedra include:
Rhombicuboctahedron and pseudo-rhombicuboctahedron. In geometry, an Archimedean solid is one of 13 convex polyhedra whose faces are regular polygons and whose vertices are all symmetric to each other. They were first enumerated by Archimedes. They belong to the class of convex uniform polyhedra, the convex polyhedra with regular faces and ...
Compound of five great rhombihexahedra. Compound of five icosahedra. Compound of five octahedra. Compound of five octahemioctahedra. Compound of five small cubicuboctahedra. Compound of five small rhombicuboctahedra. Compound of five small rhombihexahedra. Compound of five small stellated dodecahedra.
Self. In geometry, an octagon (from Ancient Greek ὀκτάγωνον (oktágōnon) 'eight angles') is an eight-sided polygon or 8-gon. A regular octagon has Schläfli symbol {8} [1] and can also be constructed as a quasiregular truncated square, t {4}, which alternates two types of edges. A truncated octagon, t {8} is a hexadecagon, {16}.
