Czechoslovakia's jazz roots were established by Jaroslav Ježek and Rudolf Antonín Dvorský in the 1920s and 1930s. Ježek's influence in this realm is particularly noted and by the time he immigrated to the United States in 1939, his compositions blending jazz and classical music were among the most popular music.

Prague International Jazz Festival is the oldest music festival in the Czech Republic and also one of the oldest and most traditional ones in Europe.It became an autumn tradition as an equivalent to the Prague Spring International Music Festival of classical music, which is held in the beginning of the year.
In August 2010, ČRo Jazz was created then as ČRo Euro Jazz and since then broadcasts digitally on DAB+, DVB-T, DVB-S and on the Internet. The station received its separate position on the airwaves and the newly renamed Český Rozhlas Jazz began broadcasting on 1 March 2013.
Bohemia Jazz Fest is an annual jazz festival in the Czech Republic. It was started in 2005 by Czech-born jazz guitarist Rudy Linka . The festival travels to different historic squares in cities throughout the country during the month of July, beginning on Prague's Old Town Square , and ending in České Budějovice .
