Brush Electric Illuminating Company was a business of the late 19th century, based in Manhattan, New York. In April 1881, it made a bid to the New York City gas commissioners to provide lighting to the district encompassing Broadway and Fifth Avenue , from 14th to 34th Streets .
Brush & Co. moved into a new plant at 900 Linden Avenue in Rochester in 1968, with over 50,000 sq ft (5,000 m 2). In 1987, it began doing business under the name Sentry Group, in order to better identify the company with its trademark name safes — "Sentry".
