Freeland Learning Center is the oldest school building in the district, built in 1959, and expanded since then. As of 2021–2022 school year, the Learning Center houses Young 5's, Kindergarten, and 1st grade classes. [6] The Learning Center also used to hold 2nd grade, until 2017. Everyday Mathematics curriculum was developed by the University of Chicago School Math Project (or UCSMP ) [1] which was founded in 1983. Work on it started in the summer of 1985. The 1st edition was released in 1998 and the 2nd in 2002. A third edition was released in 2007 and a fourth in 2014-2015. [2]

MathLand does not teach standard arithmetic algorithms, including carrying and borrowing. Such methods familiar to adults are absent from the curriculum, and so would need to be supplemented if desired. The standard method for multi-digit multiplication is not presented until 6th grade, and then only as an example of how it is error-prone.
