Plant (born 1952) [1] was a comics and illustrated books enthusiast [2] from San Jose, California, who throughout his high school years bought and sold back issue comic books through ads in fanzines such as Rocket's Blast/ComicCollector.
The company was founded by Bud Plant, Robert Beerbohm, and John Barrett. Comics & Comix operated from 1972 to 2004. Comics & Comix operated from 1972 to 2004. At its peak, C&C had nine retail locations, [ 1 ] making it the first comic book chain store in America.
Most notably, in 1988, Geppi bought up early mail-order distributor Bud Plant Inc., [5] who had himself bought out Charles Abar Distribution in 1982. [6] Plant had, since 1970, been selling underground comics (a field which Geppi and fellow distributor Buddy Saunders had tended to steer clear of). [ 6 ]
