Polydor Records was founded on 2 April 1913 by German Polyphon-Musikwerke AG in Leipzig and registered on 25 July 1914 (Nr. 316613). The label was founded as Firma Brachhausen & Riesener in 1887 by Gustav Adolf Brachhausen and Ernst Paul Riessner, for manufacturing their new mechanical disc-playing music box Polyphon, invented in 1870. The Guitar Album is a 1974 double compilation album featuring live performances of popular guitarists. It features eighteen tracks from artists Eric Clapton, Roy Buchanan, Rory Gallagher, T-Bone Walker, Ellen McIlwaine, Link Wray, Stone the Crows, John McLaughlin and Area Code 615.
Official music videos were recorded for the album's two singles, "Love Me Tonight" and "Without Your Love" and the album was promoted moderately by Polydor. The album was met with lukewarm reception and the band would disband in 1980 after recording a second studio album, Worlds Apart .

All previous RSO releases were later re-released under the Polydor label, which is now owned by Universal Music Group.
