Alpha Delta Sigma absorbed Gamma Alpha Chi, which had also been formed February 9, 1920 at University of Missouri as a female counterpart to Alpha Delta Sigma. The merger occurred on November 2, 1971. [5] In 1964, Alpha Delta Sigma had fifty undergraduate and eleven professional chapters, and Gamma Alpha Chi had 37 chapters of which 22 were active.
Alpha Sigma Delta started as a sorority called the Iaqua Club at University of California, Berkeley in 1918. [1] Iaqua Club changed its name to Alpha Sigma Delta in 1919. In the fall of 1914, Delta Sigma Theta was established at Brooklyn College of Pharmacy as an outgrowth of the Mortar and Pestle club (local). There were six founders led by A. Bertram Lemon.
