Thomas Frederick Cooper (19 March 1921 – 15 April 1984) was a Welsh [1] [2] prop comedian and magician. As an entertainer, his appearance was large and lumbering at 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m), [ 3 ] and he habitually wore a red fez when performing.
For Thames TV that year, he also appeared in and wrote The Eric Sykes 1990 Show with Tommy Cooper, Dandy Nichols and John Williams (guitarist) and It's Your Move, a wordless slapstick comedy depicting the travails of a couple (Richard Briers and Sylvia Syms) moving into a new home, who hire an accident-prone firm of house removers, headed by Sykes.
Cooper was known for getting his illusions deliberately and comically wrong. After Cooper collapsed, his audience laughed for almost a minute, thinking that his stage character had swooned at the appearance of a pretty magician's assistant (even she thought Cooper was improvising a comic bit). The TV show cut away to an unscheduled break.
