North Carolina is a state located in the Southern United States. According to the 2020 United States census , North Carolina is the 9th-most populous state with 10,439,388 inhabitants, but the 28th-largest by land area spanning 53,819 square miles (139,390 km 2 ) of land.
The following is a partial list of named, but unincorporated, communities in the state of North Carolina. To be listed, the unincorporated community should either be, a census-designated place (CDP) or a place with at least a few commercial businesses.
In 1904 Michael Erastus Rudisill laid out the mill and village on a 1,500-acre (610 ha) tract, chosen for its hydro power potential. Rudisill, along with his brother Albert Pinkney Rudisill, built the village and engineered the dam and mill building along with David William Aderholdt, Miles R. Rudisill, and Marcus Lafayette Aderholdt.
North Carolina's 1868 constitution adopted a "Township and County Commissioner Plan" for structuring local government, largely inspired by provisions in Pennsylvania's constitution. Townships were created under the county unit of government, with every county divided into them, and each given their own township board.
The official name of the town, as recognized by the federal government, was changed from Ramsaytown to Ramseytown on January 1, 1931. In the village, the population was spread out, with 13.0% under the age of 18, 1.5% from 18 to 24, 13.9% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 46.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 63 years.
U.S. Route 117 passes through the center of town, leading north 7 miles (11 km) to Warsaw and south 11 miles (18 km) to Wallace. Interstate 40 passes to the east of Magnolia, with access from Exit 373 ( NC 24 ) 2 miles (3 km) northeast of town, and from Exit 369 (US 117) 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north of town.
