Play It Again, Charlie Brown is the seventh prime-time animated TV special based upon the comic strip Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz. It originally aired on CBS on March 28, 1971. [1] This was the first Peanuts TV special of the 1970s, airing nearly a year and a half after It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown.
In October 2007, Warner Home Video acquired worldwide home video rights to the Peanuts TV specials from Paramount Home Entertainment and other distributors. The deal would also allow Warner Bros. to produce new direct-to-video Peanuts content and short-form digital content for release under the Warner Premiere label. [4]
A notable exception was a series of films based on the Peanuts franchise, beginning with the 1969 film A Boy Named Charlie Brown, which was both a commercial and critical success; the films were made with the same production team behind the acclaimed Peanuts television specials that were airing throughout the time period, led by Bill Melendez.
During the 1970s, Charlie Brown appeared in twelve Peanuts television specials that were produced as a result of the success of the earlier TV specials. Charlie Brown also appeared in two animated feature films ( Snoopy Come Home and Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown , released on August 9, 1972, and August 24, 1977, respectively).

It has been released on DVD three times, first as a "bonus feature" on the September 12, 2000 It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown DVD [12] then on its own as part of Warner Home Video's "Remastered Deluxe Edition" line of Peanuts specials on October 7, 2008 and again as part of Peanuts: 1970’s Collection, Volume 1 on October 20, 2009.
