The Beartooths are the location of Granite Peak, which at 12,807 feet (3,904 m) is the highest point in the state of Montana. The mountains are just northeast of Yellowstone National Park [ 1 ] and are part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem .
The Lost Creek Wilderness is a 119,790-acre (485 km 2) wilderness area located in central Colorado in Jefferson and Park counties, south of the town of Bailey. The area is situated entirely within the boundaries of the Pike National Forest. The Lost Creek Scenic Area is a 16,798-acre National Natural Landmark within the Wilderness.
Granite Peak, at an elevation of 12,807 feet (3,904 m) above sea level, [1] is the highest natural point in the U.S. state of Montana, and the tenth-highest state high point in the nation. [3] It lies within the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness in Park County , very near the borders of Stillwater County and Carbon County .
The wilderness has more than 120 peaks over 10,000 feet (3,000 m) and 28 peaks over 12,000 feet (3,700 m), including Montana's highest, Granite Peak at 12,799 feet (3,901 m). [3] The wilderness is integral to the 20-million-acre (81,000 km 2 ) Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and borders Yellowstone National Park .
Granite Park Chalet is located in the heart of Glacier National Park in the U.S. state of Montana at an elevation of 6,693 feet above sea level. The chalet was built in 1914 by the Great Northern Railway and is a National Historic Landmark contributing property, being one of five structures in the Great Northern Railway Buildings district.
Preliminary topographic maps of the area (Bureau of Reclamation, Missouri Basin Project) from 1947 to 1948 show Jefferson Range, but on the 1950 15-minute sheet (Harrison Quad) the identical topography is labeled "Tobacco Root Mountains" in the same place as "Jefferson Range" on the maps that were just two years older.
