The rear wing was a Saleen Mustang hallmark in the day; Jeff Bass' Jalapena Red '85 (#128) has the optional 16-inch Riken wheels. Still, the red Mustang needed a lot of attention. Jeff had to sort out the cooling system, remove and refinish or detail the front suspension components, and have some additional paint touch-up completed.

Back in 1993, Steve Saleen built a one-off Foxbody Ford Mustang for comedian and car guy Tim Allen. Dubbed the RRR 'Casper' it sported pearl white paint, MN12 Thunderbird front light assemblies, some trick wheels, a built driveline (including a 576 horsepower 302 V8) and a six-point roll cage among other things.
steve saleen (pronounce su-leen, not say-leen) and his boys do modify the car in other areas as well. still, i agree with you 100%. i cannot see paying more than $45-50k for a new s281/351. for that kind of $$, i can do pretty much the same thing to a new GT. and since i live in SoCal, i get to see saleen's all the time.
I'd love to see the times of one of Americas only Supercars, Naturally with ford engine. i reckon though that the mustang cobra gt should have a 240kw (320hp) dohc 4.6 in it and the cobra SVT should have a dohc 5.4 to leave the Cobra R with to make it an absolute beast. Have that Saleen 7 litre engine in it it would cream viper and vette.

Though I'm leaning towards the Saleen, just for exclusivity, I'm still. not sure if that's enough to warrant an extra $15-20k! <shrug>. -Wrath.
