The Wellington Monument is a statue representing Achilles erected as a memorial to Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, and his victories in the Peninsular War and the latter stages of the Napoleonic Wars. It is sited at the south-western end of Park Lane in London, and was inaugurated on 18 June 1822.

The Columbus sculpture was completed in Germany in 1891, [2] transported across the Atlantic Ocean, and erected by the German-Americans of Columbus on July 4. [3] [4] The sculpture was rededicated on July 4, 1991. [4] In 2012, Friends of Schiller Park funded the installation of lights to illuminate the monument. [5]

The original statue was designed and executed by Max von Widnmann and unveiled in Munich on May 9, 1863, an anniversary of Friedrich von Schiller's death. [9] The Columbus City Council passed Ordinance No. 22,233 on April 3, 1905 to rename "The City Park" to "Schiller Park" as a namesake. [7] [10]
