Roland Rudolph Hinton (June 1, 1926 – January 17, 1974), nicknamed "Archie", was an American Negro league pitcher in the 1940s. A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Hinton attended Santa Monica High School. He played for the Baltimore Elite Giants in 1945 and 1946, [1] [2] and died in San Francisco, California in 1974 at age 47.

Hinton died of skin cancer in 1968 in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of 38, [1] while still in the prime of his recording career. He is not to be confused with another R&B singer, who recorded for the Arvee and Soul labels as Little Joe Hinton, for Hotlanta as Joe Hinton, and who is also believed to have recorded under the name Jay Lewis.
