The Algoma School District was organized in 1876 with the building of its first school house, located on the corner of Fremont and Sixth Street, in front of what is now the Algoma Elementary School, in 1876. The small two-story building had a large cupola on top. [2] In 1905, a major addition was added in front of this building, doubling its size.
