CT Rail Hartford Line tickets are accepted on the Amtrak Hartford Line, and vice versa; however, the Vermonter inter-city service does not participate despite running along the same route. This line is a joint venture between the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). [ 7 ]
Amtrak's long-distance routes form the backbone of the US national rail network, providing an alternative to intercity drives or flights. They are also noted for their scenery, and are popular as vacations and experiential travel. [4] A few routes provide direct service to National Parks, [note 1] with Amtrak Thruway buses reaching many more. [5]
In 1980, Connecticut invested $12 million to improve service on the line. [7] North Haven station was opened on October 25, 1980, and other stations were renovated. [8] A new fleet of 12 Budd SPV-2000 diesel railcars allowed an increase to 12 daily round trips under the Connecticut Valley Service name (plus two through trips) at that time. [9]

The Ohio Central Railroad System is a network of ten short line railroads operating in Ohio and western Pennsylvania. It is owned by Genesee & Wyoming . Headquartered in Coshocton, Ohio , the system operates 500 miles (800 km) of track divided among 10 subsidiary railroads.
Ten round-trips on weekdays are operated under the CTrail brand, with four New Haven–Hartford round-trips, six New Haven–Springfield round-trips, and one Windsor Locks–New Haven trip. Amtrak provides an additional eight New Haven-Springfield round-trips, two of which were added to the schedule upon launch of the Hartford Line in June 2018.
