Pegasus Seiya (天馬星座 ( ぺガサス ) の星矢, Pegasasu no Seiya) is the Bronze Saint of Pegasus in the 20th century and titular character of the series. An orphaned child later revealed to be one of Mitsumasa Kido's sons, he was separated from his sister Seika and sent to Greece to become a Saint, a soldier of the goddess Athena.
Seiya recalls his sister's kidnapping while unconscious, and is later taken to Kido's hideout. Kido informs Seiya that his adopted daughter Sienna is the reincarnation of the goddess Athena, and Seiya is destined to become the Pegasus Knight, a warrior knight for Athena. Patricia knew about Seiya's destiny and gave herself up to protect him.
Seiya has also appeared as a supporting character in other works related to Saint Seiya, such as the anime Saint Seiya Omega and the Saint Seiya Episode.G manga trilogy. Like most of Kurumada's characters, Seiya's design was inspired by Ryuji Takane, the protagonist of his manga Ring ni Kakero.
